Getting the most from your lawyer
Being a good client can be as important to the successful resolution of your case as hiring a good lawyer.
- Be as candid, clear and detailed as possible when instructing your lawyer and make sure that he or she understands what you are trying to achieve. Keep any documentation in good order and make sure that you don’t swamp your lawyer with irrelevant documents and information.
- Don’t be afraid to ask your lawyer for progress updates, but don’t bombard him or her with requests for information.
- Pay bills on time.
- Don’t reject your lawyer’s advice just because you don’t agree with it, but do ask your lawyer to explain the background to any advice on time.
